About the Album

On July 1, 2007, five of the finest Bay Area jazz musicians came together to celebrate the 75th birthday of one of their own -- John Price. Naturally, any such gathering would include some incredible music. Luckily, this performance was captured and preserved.

John Price arrived home after spending the afternoon building a playhouse for his granddaughter only to be greeted by a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday. Friends and family had come together to help celebrate, but it was the music that was the highlight of the event.

Benny Barth had his drums set up next to John's piano. Dean Reilly stood with his bass at the end of the piano. Rudy Salvini had a compact trumpet. Later, they were joined by Art Dougherty on the Alto Saxophone and Mario Suraci on the Bass. Sara Sinasohn, age 3, sat in for one number, improvising a descant on the piano.

In the past, such delights would be heard by those in attendance and then lost to the winds of time. On this occasion, however, the tunes were captured and preserved on this album.
